Offered by Bay Area Amateur Radio Educational Society (BAEARS), this class will help you learn what you need to know to pass the licensing test to receive your FCC amateur radio license (Technician or General). Introduction to Beekeeping, Part 1  - January 24, 2009 Randall Museum 10 AM Registration

10:30 AM – 4:00 PM class (12:30-1:45 PM lunch break) $20 members/$30 non-members

If you ever thought you might like to take up beekeeping, but do not know what would be involved in terms of time, expense and responsibility, this class is for you. We will cover the following subjects: • Brief overview of human beekeeping history • Realities & responsibilities of urban/suburban beekeeping • Life cycle of the honeybee (Apis Mellifera) & and the colony • Equipment “musts” and options, and corresponding considerations • Resources for self-study Attendees will receive the paperback book, First Lessons in Beekeeping; a catalogue from each of the five major U.S. beekeeping supply companies; a complimentary issue of each of the two U.S. beekeeping magazines; and a handout of recommended books and Internet sites for further learning. We will have a lunch break from 12:30 Noon-1:45 PM, with the option of attending a panel discussion by SFBA members who completed their first year of beekeeping during 2008 and viewing live honey bees in an observation hive. It is recommended that you bring a snack, something to drink and a bag lunch. Star parties have long been a great place to socialize with more experienced amateur astronomers, and get some tips about the night sky. But twilight and dark are not the best times to tinker with and get familiar with a new telescope.

SFAA and the Sidewalk Astronomers are inviting new (and "new again") telescope owners to take advantage of their collective expertise on a one-on-one basis at the monthly City Star Party, held at Land's End and at the Randall Museum in San Francisco.
